Tennis Today: Novak Djokovic’s coach comments on Roger Federer longevity and retirement date
In Tennis Today, Novak Djokovic’s coach talks Roger Federer, and Denis Shapovalov just keeps the creative coming.
What’s on the site
We kept our report cards from the 2018 season, with Roger Federer’s campaign put under the microscope.
Now, with Federer it can be hard to judge. His ‘disappointing’ is any other player’s ‘big success’, so find out how we did on the report card here.
Speaking of Federer, has he hinted that he may be open to playing clay court season in 2019? One man believes so.
One man very likely to play clay court, fitness permitting, is Andy Murray. Whether or not he plays Cincinnati again, though, is anyone’s guess after his spiky Instagram post.
And Novak Djokovic is on the warpath again. This time, he has the Davis Cup firmly in his sights.
What’s in the news
Roger Federer’s retirement is going to be a thing until it actually happens, so we’d might as well just get used to people talking about it.
The latest person to offer his views is Novak Djokovic coach Marian Vajda, who has been positively gushing with praise for the Swiss legend,
“It’s amazing to be still playing at the age of 37′, Vajda said.
“It is like in the past with players, we never wanted to end it (our careers) in our thirties.
“In the seventies, there was (John) Newcombe playing until the age of 37, (Jimmy) Connors until 41.
“Federer is kind of old class. He doesn’t have it in his mind to stop, he feels good.”
What’s on social media
Genie Bouchard posted what can only be described as a very Genie Bouchard thing.
Denis Shapovalov kept the artistic pictures coming…
Maria Sharapova used a new haircut as an opportunity to fire out a lot of endorsements. Lovely hair, though.
Caroline Wozniacki made a new friend on holiday.
What’s on TV
To avoid disappointment, it’s probably best you don’t ask for a couple of months…
