Andy Murray delays his comeback as he pulls out of Dutch event

Andy Murray won’t feature at the Libema Open as he feels he won’t be 100 per cent fit to compete at the Hertogenbosch tournament.

The three-time Grand Slam winner has not played any competitive tennis since Wimbledon last year. He was forced to undergo hip surgery in January and was hopeful of making his return at the start of the grass-court season.

The Dutch event, taking place from June 11, was meant to be his first official tournament after the operation, but he has now delayed his comeback with the Fever-Tree Championship at Queen’s Club, which starts on June 18, next on his calendar.

“It is with regret that I won’t be ready to play in Hertogenbosch,” Murray said.

“I was excited to play there for the first time, but I am not quite ready to return. I am still aiming to play in the coming weeks, but I want to be 100 per cent when I do return.”

As Tennis365.com reported on Monday, Murray will return to the practice courts of Wimbledon this week, but question marks remain over his participation at the SW19 Grand Slam, which starts on July 2.
