Alexander Zverev fist pump

Alexander Zverev produced an error-laden display, but was still too good for Robin Haase at the Swiss Indoors while Marin Cilic was a big casualty.

Second seed Zverev made 33 unforced errors en route to a 6-4, 7-5 victory in one hour and 30 minutes over the Dutchman.

The win was the German’s 50th of the 2018 season and he will take on Australian qualifier Alexei Popyrin.

Third seed Cilic was sent packing by world No 93 Marius Copil with the Romanian winning 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) in one hour and 50 minutes.

Copill will face Taylor Fritz for a place in the quarter-final after the American secured a 6-2, 7-5 win over Henri Laaksonen.

Fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas is safely into the second round after a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) win over Jeremy Chardy while eighth seed Roberto Bautista beat Joao Sousa 6-4, 6-3 to earn a match against Dusan Lajovic, who was a 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-2 winner over Adrian Mannarino.
