ATP Rankings: Carlos Alcaraz’s lead reduced, Alexander Zverev gets a boost, Chris Eubanks hits top 30

Carlos Alcaraz has started his 31st week at the top of the ATP Rankings while it was a good week for Alexander Zverev and Chris Eubanks in the latest rankings update.

The top 10 remains unchanged with most of the top players opting to sit last week, although Alcaraz’s lead shrunk by 150 points as he didn’t compete at the Croatia Open – a tournament where he finished runner-up in 2022.

As a result, the Spaniard sits on top with 9,225 points – a slender 430-point advantage over Djokovic and the status quo will remain this week as neither will be in action. Alcaraz, though, will have a chance to increase his lead next week as he will play at the Canadian Open while Djokovic has opted to skip the event.

Although Taylor Fritz won the ATP250 Atlanta Open, he stays ninth in the rankings, but he has closed the gap to Jannik Sinner with the difference now 300 points.

Further down the list, Zverev’s Hamburg Open success has helped him to continue his climb back up the rankings while Eubanks has hit another new career high.

Just over a year ago, Zverev found himself at No 2 in the rankings, but his injury-enforced absence during the second half of the 2022 season and his struggle to return to form at the beginning of this campaign resulted in a slide.

At the end of May he had slipped to No 27 – his lowest position since September 2016 – but he reached the semi-final in Halle, the third round at Wimbledon and the quarter-final at Bastad to climb back into the top 20.

And he is now up to No 16 again after becoming the first German player to win the Hamburg title in 30 years.

Meanwhile, the Eubanks fairytale continues as he is now up to No 29, having started the year outside the top 100.

After winning his maiden title, the Mallorca Championships, in June, Eubanks followed it up with a run to the quarter-final at Wimbledon and he made another last-appearance at the Atlanta Open to hit the top 30.

As for British interests, Cameron Norrie remains the British No 1 as he sits at 13 while Dan Evans is down to No 30 with Andy Murray at No 44.
