ATP Rankings: Carlos Alcaraz still numero uno, Stefanos Tsitsipas on the move, Dan Evans hits new high
There were minimal changes to the top 20 in the ATP Rankings after last week’s three events with Carlos Alcaraz staying at No 1, but title winners Stefanos Tsitsipas, Dan Evans and Sebastian Baez all received rankings boosts.
Alcaraz was assured of staying top as his closest challenger Novak Djokovic is taking an extended break following the Wimbledon final and on Monday the Spaniard started his 32nd week at the top.
That number will grow to 33 next week as Djokovic will once again not be in action this week as he opted to skip the Canadian Open and that decision will give Alcaraz an opportunity to increase his lead.
The 20-year-old currently has a 430-point advantage and he only has 10 points to defend in Toronto after losing in the second round last year. Crucially, though, Alcaraz will be looking to build a big enough lead that will help him to secure the top seed for the US Open.
However, that is only possible if he wins the Canadian Open as he would then open a 1,420-point lead over Djokovic (Alcaraz will drop 180 points at the Cincinnati Open while Djokovic has no points to defend in Ohio).
The was only one change in the top 10 with Tsitsipas moving back up to No 4 on the back of his title run at the Los Cabos Open. The Greek picked up 240 points to move ahead of Casper Ruud.
Borna Coric and Alexander Zverev swapped places with the former back up to No 15 while Alex de Minaur also moved up one spot to No 18 after finishing runner-up to Tsitispas in Mexico.
Citi DC Open finalists Dan Evans and Tallon Griekspoor were big winners as they are both up to career-highs with Evans climbing nine places to No 21 after winning the title. Griekspoor, meanwhile, rose 11 places to No 26.
Argentine Baez surged 30 places to No 42 after winning the Austrian Open while runner-up Dominic Thiem climbed 32 places to No 84.
Nick Kyrgios, meanwhile, is still in the top 100 despite not defending his points at the Citi DC Open, but he slipped 57 places to No 92.
