Jannik Sinner enjoyed an incredible week at the Shanghai Masters as he won the title and wrapped up the year-end No 1 ranking as he opened an impressive points lead over second-placed Carlos Alcaraz.

Ahead of the Shanghai event, Alcaraz still had a mathematical chance of finishing the 2024 season top of the ATP Rankings but his quarter-final defeat paved the way for Sinner to become the first Italian to claim the year-end No 1 honours.

Incredibly, the 23-year-old – currently in his 18th consecutive week at No 1 in the rankings – went on to win the title as he defeated Novak Djokovic in two sets in the final to lift his seventh title of the year and 17th of his career.

On the back of his title run, Sinner – who picked up 910 points to move to a grand total of 11,920 – has opened a 4,800-point lead over Alcaraz in the standings with Alexander Zverev another 325 points behind in third place.

Alcaraz and Zverev will face off for second place over the next few weeks, but the race will most likely only be settled after the ATP Finals.

Djokovic solidified his fourth place as he added 650 points to his tally, but the 24-time Grand Slam winner has 2,300 points to defend over the coming weeks as he is the defending champion at the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals.

Taylor Fritz reached the semi-final in Shanghai and moves up to No 7 while Hubert Hurkacz drops out of the top 10 as he was unable to defend his title.
