ATP Rankings: Jannik Sinner’s rivals falter, Jack Draper career high, lucky loser Camilo Ugo Carabelli +22
Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz wasted an opportunity to chip away at Jannik Sinner’s lead at the top of the ATP Rankings while Jack Draper edged closer to the top 10.
With world No 1 Sinner forced to withdraw from last week’s Qatar Open due to his three-month ban for testing positive for the banned substance clostebol in March last year, his two main rivals had an opportunity to make up some ground.
But both missed out as Alcaraz lost in the quarter-final in Doha while Zverev exited at the same stage of the Rio Open.
It means the lead between Sinner – who has now spent 38 consecutive weeks at the top of the rankings – and Zverev remains 3,195 points as the German defended his points from last year while Alcaraz is another 625 points adrift in third place after picking up 100 points in Qatar.
Zverev will get another chance to edge closer to the three-time Grand Slam winner – this coming week as he is in action at the Mexican Open and has no points to defend before the ATP Tour – minus the banned Sinner – heads to the United States for the Indian Wells-Miami Sunshine Double.

2025 ATP Dubai draw: Daniil Medvedev and Alex de Minaur headline stacked event
Taylor Fritz is a distant fourth with Casper Ruud and Daniil Medvedev within 1,000 points while they are followed by Novak Djokovic, Alex de Minaur, Andrey Rublev and Tommy Paul.
Rublev was the big winner as he won the Qatar Open for the second time, beating Draper in the final, and he earned 450 to return to No 9.
Draper jumped four places to a career-high No 12 on the back of his runners-up finish and he is just five points behind Stefanos Tsitsipas in 11th while he also has Paul in 10th place in his sights.
Sebastian Baez was the other title winner last week as he lifted the crown in Rio as he defeated Alexandre Muller in the final, but he remained at No 31 as he was the defending champion. Frenchman Muller is up 19 places to a career-high No 41.
Baez’s fellow Argentines Francisco Comesana, who upset Zverev, and Camilo Ugo Carabelli reached the semi-finals in Brazil and the former rises 19 places to No 67 while lucky loser Ugo Carabelli is two places behind after jumping 22 spots.
Joao Fonseca had a memorable time in Buenos Aires just over a week ago as he won his maiden title in the Argentina capital, but he didn’t get going at his home event as he lost in the first round against Muller, leading to a 10-place drop to No 78.
