ATP Rankings: Novak Djokovic assured of astonishing record, Jack Draper finishes on a high

Novak Djokovic of Serbia poses with the year-end ATP No 1 trophy

Novak Djokovic started his 399th week at No 1 in the ATP Rankings on Monday and he is assured of the mind-blowing 400-week milestone for most weeks at number one while British youngster Jack Draper received a big boost following his run in Sofia.

With Djokovic winning his opening match at the ATP Finals on Sunday, he wrapped up the year-end No 1 ranking ahead of Carlos Alcaraz and in the process he also made sure he will become the first tennis player – man or woman – to spend 400 weeks at No 1 in the rankings.

The 24-time Grand Slam winner will remain at No 1 until at least January 8, which means he will stretch his astonishing record to at least 406 weeks.

And while Djokovic is assured of the No 1 spot in the year-end rankings, there are still a few other positions to be settled behind him as Alcaraz is in danger of losing second place to Medvedev. However, there are a lot of permutations still at play at this week’s ATP Finals.

Medvedev, though, won’t finish lower than third place while the likes of Jannik Sinner, Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune are jostling for positions.

With most players wrapping up their regular tennis season last week, there were minimal changes in the top 20 with Casper Ruud the big loser as he dropped four places to No 11.

Ugo Humbert, though, was a winner as he moved up three places to a new career-high No 20 after winning the Moselle Open while runner-up Alexander Shevchenko jumped 14 places to No 49.

Adrian Mannarino was the other trophy winner last week and his Sofia Open title saw him climb three places to a new best at No 22 while Draper surged up 21 places to No 61 – still well off his career-high NO 38.

Draper – who remains the fourth-highest ranked Briton in the rankings behind Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans and Andy Murray – reached his maiden final in Sofia and picked up 150 points to finish the year with a 19-11 record.
