Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz continue to play musical chairs at the top of the ATP Rankings as the former replaced the latter as the world No 1.

Back in February Djokovic admitted that he expected the No 1 ranking to “go in circles” as he is not playing as many tournaments as the younger players.

“I guess eventually they’ll take the No 1, then I’ll bring it back again, then they’ll take it again, then we go in circles,” he said.

And he has proven to be right as the world No 1 ranking has already changed hands several times this year as Alcaraz started the 2023 seas at No 1 before Djokovic took over top spot on the back of winning the Australian Open.

The Spaniard then returned to the top following his Indian Wells Open win but Djokovic is now back at No 1 after Alcaraz failed to defend his Miami Open title. The Serbian is now in his eighth stint and record-extending 381st week at the top.

Djokovic is back at No 1 with 7,160 points as he didn’t have any points to defend in Indian Wells or Miami with Alcaraz 380 points adrift and Stefanos Tsitsipas another 1,000-odd points behind in third place.

Daniil Medvedev continued his brilliant run of form at the Miami Open as he picked up his fourth title of the year and he is now up to No 4 in the world while Miami runner-up Sinner is back in the top 10 for the first time since September last year.

The Italian jumps two places in the rankings after adding 420 points to his tally while Karen Khachanov is now at No 11 after reaching the semi-final in Florida.

There were no major changes in the rest of the top 20, but much lower down the list Christopher Eubanks jumped 34 places to move into the top 100 for the first time and he settled at a “comfortable” No 85 after reaching his maiden ATP Tour singles quarter-final before losing to Medvedev in Miami.

As for the British contingent, Cameron Norrie is remains the British No 1 as he is 13th while Dan Evans sits at No 30. Andy Murray dropped five places and is now at No 57 with Jack Draper at No 61 after dropping 18 places.
