ATP Rankings: Novak Djokovic back on his perch, Rafael Nadal officially out of the top 100
Novak Djokovic returned to world No 1 in the ATP Rankings following yet another record-breaking French Open title run while Rafael Nadal is out of the top 100 for the first time 20 years.
Four players were gunning to be No 1 after Roland Garros, but three of them fell by the wayside and Djokovic was the last man standing as he won the title in Paris for the third time to move to a record 23 Grand Slams – one ahead of Nadal.
Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsips were the quartet who were in with a shout of being world No 1 after the clay-court Grand Slam, but victory over Casper Ruud on Sunday ensured the Serbian’s return to the top for his ninth stint, replacing Alcaraz after he had beaten the Spaniard in the semi-final.
Having lost in the quarter-final last year, Djokovic picked up 1,640 points to move to 7,595 for a handy 420-point lead over Alcaraz with Medvedev remaining third and Ruud and Tsitispas completing the top five.
Djokovic is now within touching distance of 400 weeks at No 1 as he started his record-extending 388th week on Monday – should he remain there for next few months then he could hit week 400 after the US Open.

The only change in the lower half of the top 10 sees Karen Khachanov return to No 10 on the back of his run to the quarter-final at Roland Garros.
One of the biggest changes in rankings history sees Rafael Nadal slump 112 spots from No 15 to No 136 as he dropped 2,000 points after he was unable to defend his title due to injury.
The last time the Spaniard was outside the top 100 was in April 2002 and he now sits on a mere 445 points and will drop further as he is only expected to return to action in 2023 following hip surgery.
Meanwhile, another former world No 1 in Andy Murray kept his hopes of a Wimbledon seeding alive by winning the ATP Challenger Tour’s Surbiton Trophy. He is now at No 44 and has the Nottingham Open coming up this week.
