Novak Djokovic started another record-extending week at the top of the ATP Rankings on Monday, but the changing of the guard in men’s tennis is truly underway with the average age of the top 10 just 24.1.

With Carlos Alcaraz not playing at the Monte Carlo Masters last week, 22-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic was assured of staying top of the ATP Rankings for a 383rd week, giving him a 73-week – or one-year and four-month – advantage over previous record-holder Roger Federer’s mark of 310.

Although Djokovic suffered a surprise third-round exit in Monte Carlo, there was a 90-point swing at the top as he extended his lead over Alcaraz to 470 points as last year he lost in the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 event while Alcaraz dropped 10 points.

The Serbian is also assured of staying top of the ATP Rankings next week as Alcaraz has 500 points to defend at the Barcelona Open while Djokovic will only drop 150 points as he finished runner-up at the Serbia Open last year.

Stefanos Tsitsipas was the big loser over the past week as the Greek drops from third to fifth after he failed to successfully defend his Monte Carlo Masters title.

Casper Ruud and Daniil Medvedev both move up one spot while Monte Carlo champion Andrey Rublev stays in sixth place after adding 910 points to his tally on the back of his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title.

The man beaten by Rublev on Sunday, Holger Rune, sits a career-best No 7 after the Norwegian reached his second Masters final.

Monte Carlo semi-finalist Jannik Sinner remains at his career-high of No 8 with Felix Auger-Aliassime and Taylor Fritz completing the top 10.

The top 10, in fact, is quite young with the average age just 24.1 as Alcaraz (19), Ruud (24), Tsitsipas (24), Rune (19), Sinner (21) and Auger-Aliassime (22) all under 24.

The 35-year-old Djokovic is by far the oldest player in the top 10 with Medvedev (27), Rublev (25) and Fritz (25) are also wel below 30.

In fact, there are only three players above 30 in the top 20 with Rafael Nadal (36) and Pablo Carreno Busta (31) the other two players who are above the mark.
