ATP Rankings: Alexander Zverev misses out, Stefanos Tsitsipas in top 10, Ben Shelton, Tomas Machac milestones

Alexander Zverev once again missed out on an opportunity to chip away at world No 1 Jannik Sinner’s lead in the ATP Rankings while Ben Shelton and Tomas Machac reached new career highs.
With Sinner now three weeks into his three-month ban, his closest rivals Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz had a chance to reduce the gap a fortnight ago but both slipped up as they lost in the quarter-finals of the Rio Open and Qatar Open, respectively.
Zverev was again in ATP Tour action last week as he competed at the Mexican Open, but he again failed to reduce the deficit to Sinner as he lost in the second round.
It means the status quo remains with Sinner a massive 3,195 points ahead of the German while Alcaraz is another 625 points adrift in third place.
Up next is the Indian Wells Open and Zverev will get another opportunity to reduce the lead to Sinner as he will drop only 200 points while the best Alcaraz can do is to maintain his 7,510 points as he is defending 1,000 points after winning the title last year.
The top seven remains unchanged with Sinner, Zverev and Alcaraz followed by Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud and Daniil Medvedev while Andrey Rublev is up one place as a result of Alex de Minaur slipping two spots to No 10 after he failed to defend his title in Acapulco.
Stefanos Tsitsipas returns to the top 10 for the first time since May 2024 as he moved up two spots to No 9 after winning his maiden ATP 500 trophy at the Dubai Tennis Championships.
Ben Shelton is just outside the top 10 at No 12 as he climbed two places to a new high despite losing early in Mexico while Felix Auger-Aliassime, who lost in the Dubai final, is back in the top 20 as he jumped three spots to No 18 – still some way off his best of sixth.

How many points will Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev drop in March?
Machac succeeded De Minaur as the Mexican Open champion as the Czech claimed his maiden ATP Tour singles trophy, beating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final.
“The emotions right now are just relief, because it was a tough week. Especially when I have this form, I don’t like to lose in the final,” Machac said after winning the title. “I’m really happy that I managed to win today because Alejandro was playing really, really good. It was a tough battle.”
The 24-year-old is up five places to No 20 while Brandon Nakashima, who lost in the semi-final, climbs nine spots to a career-high No 33.
Frenchman Quentin Halys was one of the biggest risers as he is up 18 places to No 59 after reaching the Dubai semi-finals while rising American star Learner Tien climbed 15 places to No 68 on the back of his run to the quarter-final in Acapulco.
But the award for the biggest jump in the top 100 this week goes to Laslo Djere as he surged 29 places to No 74 after beating defending champion Sebastian Baez in the Chile Open final.
Last year’s Dubai runner-up Alexander Bublik was a big loser as he slipped 31 places to No 82 after losing early at the 2025 edition of the ATP 500 event.
