Carlos Alcaraz gives Paris Masters and ATP Finals update after latest injury setback
Carlos Alcaraz has given a positive update following his latest injury misfortune with the reigning Wimbledon champion set to return to action next week.
Just over a week ago, the world No 2 announced that he was struggling with inflammation in his left foot and muscle fatigue in his lower back. As a result, he opted to skip the ATP 500 Swiss Indoors in Basel.
The decision to rest combined with the treatment he received yielded positive results and he has given an update ahead of his final two tournaments of the year.
Alcaraz is due to play at the Paris Masters – which starts on October 30 – and the November 13-19 ATP Finals in Turin, Italy.
Writing on the social media platform X, the Spaniard stated: “I have good news! I am feeling better every day and I will play Paris-Bercy and be in Turin for the ATP Finals! Excited to finish the year on a high!”

His return to action in Paris will once again kick-start his bid to beat Novak Djokovic to the 2023 year-end No 1 title while he will make his ATP Finals debut after missing the 2022 edition due to injury.
Djokovic currently leads the standings with only 500 points with a lot of points still on offer in the final two tournaments. The winner of the Paris Masters will receive 1,000 points while 1,500 points are on offer to an undefeated champion at the ATP Finals.
After losing early in the Shangai Masters, Alcaraz acknowledged that his task was a bit more difficult, saying: “[With] this loss I needed to be a little bit farther.
“It’s going to be tougher, if I want to be No 1. I have a few tournaments ahead, so I’ll try to do my best. I’ll try to, you know, win them, if I want to have a chance to end the year as No 1. I don’t know, but right now I lose a lot of opportunities to make it.”
Alcaraz’s form since Wimbledon
Alcaraz, though, hasn’t won a title since lifting the Wimbledon trophy following his brilliant win over Djokovic in the final. He also reached the Cincinnati Masters final, but Djokovic turned the tables as he won that epic final in three sets.
The 20-year-old’s US Open title defence then came to an end in the semi-final as he lost against Daniil Medvedev while his Asian swing also failed to deliver a final as he was beaten in the last four of the China Open by Jannik Sinner before Grigor Dimitrov stunned him in the round of 16 at the Shanghai Masters.
