Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal star in list of 5 best win percentages at a Masters 1000 event
There is little doubt about who the two main attractions are in Madrid this year.
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is looking to become the first player in history to ‘threepeat’ at the event, while another home favourite – Rafael Nadal – is in resurgent form.
Alcaraz has only ever played in Madrid three times before but has an incredible record at the tournament, and has numbers that could match Nadal at some of his best events.
The two have found huge success at Masters 1000 level, and the two Spaniards feature twice in the list of highest individual win percentages of any player at a Masters tournament.
Carlos Alcaraz – Madrid Open, 93.3%
Alcaraz has an astonishing record in the Spanish capital, losing just one match at the tournament.
That came on his 18th birthday three years ago, when he fell to a straight-sets defeat against Rafael Nadal in the second round.
Since then, the world No 3 has not lost a single match at his home Masters 1000 event.
Alcaraz has won back-to-back titles in the last two years, and two wins so far in 2023 mean he has won 13 matches in a row in Madrid, and has a 14-1 record overall.

Rafael Nadal – Monte Carlo Masters, 92.4%
Nadal has dominated several clay court events throughout his career and one of those tournaments is the Monte Carlo Masters, where he is an 11-time champion.
The ‘King of Clay’ won eight titles in a row from 2005-2012 on the French Riviera and also won three consecutive crowns from 2016-2018, also reaching the final in 2013.
Nadal has lost just six times at the event compared to a staggering 73 match wins, meaning he holds a 92.4% win rate at the esteemed tournament.
Boris Becker – Stockholm Open, 90.0%
The Stockholm Open may only be an ATP 250 event now, but in the 1990s it was one of the first ‘ATP Super 9’ events and one of the biggest stops on the tour.
And Boris Becker played some of his best tennis at the tournament, triumphing in the Swedish capital a total of four times.
Three of those victories came during the Super 9/Masters 1000 era, and he reached the quarter-final and third round in his other two appearances.
That left him with a win percentage of 90% at the event, making him the only player outside of Alcaraz and Nadal to feature on this list.
Rafael Nadal – Italian Open, 89.6%
Rome has been another happy hunting ground for Nadal, with 10 titles coming his way at the Italian Open across his career.
Alongside his titles at the tournament, Nadal has reached the final another two times in Rome, and has an impressive 69 match wins to his name, compared to only eight losses.
That gives him an 89% win rate at the tournament, one of the highest of his career – and the fourth-highest in Masters 1000 history.

Carlos Alcaraz – Indian Wells Masters, 88.8%
Outside of his Madrid dominance, Alcaraz has also found huge success at Indian Wells in the early stages of his career.
The 20-year-old reached the second round on his event debut in 2021 but then stormed all the way to the last four the following year.
And since then he has been untouchable in the desert, with back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024 coming his way.
Alcaraz has an astonishing 88.8% win record across his opening four campaigns in the desert – a percentage that could only increase with time.
