The second half of the 2025 ATP Tour season is only a few weeks old, and Carlos Alcaraz has already secured his passage to the ATP Finals.

The five-time Grand Slam winner’s run to the semi-final of Wimbledon has seen him move past the qualification as he has already accumulated 7,040 points so far this season.

Last year, Alcaraz only booked his place at the season-ending tournament in September while the Spaniard is just 10 points behind his total ranking points from the 2024 season as he finished the campaign with 7,050 points.

It highlights just how impressive the 22-year-old has been in recent months as he started the year with a quarter-final exit at the Australian Open with his first title only arriving at the ATP 500 Rotterdam Open.

After an underwhelming Sunshine Double at the Indian Wells Open and Miami Open, Alcaraz has been in surpreme form since the start of April as he has won the Monte Carlo Masters, Italian Open, French Open and Queen’s Club Championships, while he also finished runner-up at the Barcelona Open.

Those five tournaments alone account for 4,830 of his points while his Wimbledon last-four appearance has earned him another 800 points, but that could grow to 2,000 if he wins the title for a third consecutive year.

Alcaraz, who is currently No 2 in the official ATP Rankings, has already opened a 2,640-point lead over current world No 1 Jannik Sinner and the ATP Rankings Race To Turin is usually a yardstick for the year-end No 1 ranking.

Sinner finished the 2024 season at the top of the rankings, but the Italian missed several tournaments this year when he served his three-month suspension for his failed doping tests back in March 2024.

Novak Djokovic was the year-end No 1 in 2023 while Alcaraz was top in 2022.

As for the Race To Turin, eight players will secure their place in the season-ending tournament in Turin and those who finish one to seven will gain automatic entry. The eighth spot is reserved for a current-year Grand Slam champion who sits between ninth and 20th in the Race.

Should all Grand Slam champions be in the top seven, then the final place will go to the player who is No 8 in the rankings.

Alexander Zverev, Djokovic and Jack Draper complete the top five while Lorenzo Musetti, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton the other players who are currently in the top eight, but the Race is far from over with one Grand Slam (US Open) and three ATP Masters 1000 events still remaining on the calendar.
