Carlos Alcaraz’s final five tournaments of 2023 revealed with exciting exhibition event also confirmed

Carlos Alcaraz will play in five more official tournaments this year before bringing his 2023 campaign to an end with an exhibition event in Mexico.

The Spaniard’s Grand Slam season came to a disappointing conclusion at the US Open on Friday as his title defence was ended by Daniil Medvedev, who won their semi-final encounter in four sets.

Alcaraz – who will lose the world No 1 ATP Ranking to Novak Djokovic after the hard-court major – was initially scheduled to represent Spain in the Davis Cup Group stage this coming week, but the 20-year-old announced his withdrawal from the squad after his US Open exit.

In a statement, he announced: “I have to listen to my body after a very long tour. I need to stop and rest, physically and mentally”.

The reigning Wimbledon champion will now instead return to action at the end of September as he will take part in the China Open, which runs from September 28 to October 4. Alcaraz will make his debut at the event as the ATP 500 tournament has been absent from the calendar the past few years due to the Covid pandemic.

The Spaniard will remain in Asia at the conclusion of the Beijing event as he has signed up for the Shanghai Masters, another event where he will feature for the first time in his career.

It will be a heavily stacked field at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament as all the top players – including US Open finalists Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev – will also feature.

After that he will likely take a break and return home to Spain as his next scheduled event is the Swiss Indoors in Basel from October 23-29 He has 180 points to defend as last year he reached the semi-final of the ATP 500 event – losing against straight sets against eventual champion Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The Paris Masters is up next from October 30 to November 5 and he has another 180 points to defend in Paris-Bercy following a run to the quarter-final in 2022.

Alcaraz will bring the curtain down on his 2023 campaign at the ATP Finals in Turin as he will make his debut at the season-ending tournament after missing the event last year due to injury.

ATP Finals – November 12 to 19

The 20-year-old will play one final event before heading on holiday as he will take part in an exhibition event at the Plaza de Toros México on November 29 against a yet to be named opponent.

Last year tennis great Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud competed at the same venue, but it is unlikely that either will be in action this year.
