Daniil Medvedev has been part of the tennis elite for nearly a decade, getting his first top-20 victory back in 2018.

The Russian has victories over Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, having also won a Grand Slam and lifted six Masters 1000 titles.

Below, we take a look at Medvedev’s career.

What is his current ranking and what is his career high?

Medvedev is currently ranked as the world No 6, just behind Novak Djokovic.

In February 2022, the Russian became the first player not named Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray to become the world No 1 since Andy Roddick in 2004.

His highest year-end ranking was as the world No 2 in 2021.

What is Daniil Medvedev’s biggest title? What else has he won?

Medvedev’s biggest career title arrived at the 2021 US Open, where he defeated 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in a historic final – with the Serb looking for the elusive calendar slam.

The former world No 1 has also finished as the runner-up at five Grand Slam finals, with his second-biggest title coming at the Nitto ATP Finals in 2020.

Medvedev has collected exactly one Masters 1000 title in each of the Miami, Rome, Canada, Cincinnati, Shanghai, and Paris-Bercy events. He has yet to play a final at the Monte Carlo or Madrid Masters, but has appeared in two Indian Wells finals – losing both to Carlos Alcaraz.

Overall, he has won 20 singles titles. Most recently, Medvedev won the 2023 Masters 1000 event in Rome, which is his sole clay title.

Who sponsors Daniil Medvedev?

Medvedev is sponsored by the clothing brand Lacoste, with French-company Tecnifibre providing his weapon of choice on the court.

The former US Open champion is also sponsored by brands HyperX, BMW, and EA Sports.

What do they say about Daniil Medvedev?

“He’s one of the most intelligent players out there in terms of using what he has to offer,” Mats Wilander stated about the Russian’s game,

“He can’t hit a topspin backhand very well, so he hits it flat all the time. It’s where he hits it from and to, and where he stands. The whole tournament, he’s been five meters behind the baseline facing a first serve.

“He’s such a clever tennis player. That doesn’t mean that he mixes up the shot selection much, but he is playing his game in different ways every match and sometimes it looks like he’s doing the same thing but he really isn’t.

“He’s very clever and he’s one of the players that if you look at his technique, there’s no chance that he can be up at three in the world and be winning majors and finals. He understands his game; you don’t need great technique if you understand your shots.”
