Does the winner of the BMW Open get a car?
The Bavarian International Tennis Championships has been known by its sponsored name, the BMW Open since 1990.
The BMW Open has also awarded a car provided by its sponsor to the winner of the men’s singles event.
In 2023, the winner will drive away with a BMW i4 M50 Gran Coupé.
A BMW press release reads: “In the main draw, 28 top players have the opportunity to claim 250 valuable world ranking points and one of the most sought-after BMW vehicles currently available. The four-door Gran Coupé BMW i4 M50 is produced in Munich and is now the best-selling BMW M model, having been launched in November 2021. BMW has been the title partner of the BMW Open by American Express since 1987, which this year boasts total prize money of 630,705 Euro.”
The Gran Coupé, manufactured at the BMW’s factory in Munich, is the first fully-electric vehicle from the German carmaker aimed at providing great driving dynamics consistently.
“The BMW i4 proves emphatically how well fully-electric mobility and sporty, dynamic driving go together – and that makes it the perfect car for a champion,” said Pieter Nota, member of the Board of Management responsible for Customer, Brands and Sales for BMW.
Also given to the winner of the event first staged over 100 years ago, are a special pair of ceremonial lederhosen.
“The BMW i4 M50 combines the best of both brands – fully-electric driving pleasure from BMW i and sporty handling from BMW M,” Stefan Teuchert, Head of BMW Germany, said as the company handed over the prize to tournament organisers earlier this month.
“This makes the innovative Gran Coupé the perfect Winner’s Car, and a great additional incentive for all players to claim the title. The fact that the BMW i4 rolls off the production line at the home plant just a few kilometres from Center Court underlines the close, long-standing partnership between the BMW Group and the BMW Open by American Express.”
Last season’s winner Holger Rune, didn’t have his driver’s licence yet at the time of winning the event. He returns this season aiming to put another i4 into his growing collection.
“I am going to get my driving license as soon as possible, so that I can drive this brilliant BMW i4“, said Rune last year.
“The week was superb, I really love Munich and the fans.
“The atmosphere was fantastic.“
The main draw of the BMW Open gets underway on Monday 17 April 2023.
