Gael Monfils hails Stefanos Tsitsipas’ ‘greatness’ following epic Indian Wells clash

Gael Monfils has heaped the praise upon rising star Stefanos Tsitsipas after the Greek sensation dumped him out of Indian Wells.
Tsitsipas battled to a 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 win over Monfils, who was immensely impressed with what he’d seen.
“He’s a great player,” declared Monfils. “He just broke the top 10. He’s one of the best players in the tour.”
On his defeat, Monfils appeared determined to remain philosophical.
“Well, there’s a winner and a loser,” he added.
“I’m the loser today. He’s the winner. That’s a big difference. In term of the game, I guess I had some opportunities.
“I couldn’t make them great today. I think I was up a break, and I didn’t serve that good starting the second set.
“It was big confirmation when he broke me back. Then I think I got those opportunities in the third set.
“I need to be better, that’s it. I need to be better to win these big matches.”
