Grigor Dimitrov injury update as team reveals how many tournaments he will miss
Grigor Dimitrov has received good news and bad news following his heartbreaking end to his 2025 Wimbledon campaign.
The Bulgarian was course for a shock win over world No 1 Jannik Sinner in the fourth round of the grass-court Grand Slam as he was two sets to love up, but he suffered a major stroke of bad luck when he served to make it 2-2 in the third set.
After sending down an ace, Dimitrov collapsed to the ground and immediately clutched his right pectoral muscle.
The veteran went into the locker room to receive treatment and when he re-emerged on Centre Court it was only to shake hands with Sinner to signal his retirement with his face wrenched in pain.
It is the fifth consecutive major that has ended in retirement for the 34-year-old with his doomed run starting at Wimbledon 2024 with an abductor tear. Since then leg, hip and thigh injuries have forced him to quit midway during Slam events.
There were initially fears that Dimitrov’s latest setback could result in a lengthy spell on the sidelines as a torn pectoral muscle takes a long time to heal, but his manager Georgi Stoimenov has revealed it was only a partial tear.
According to Tenniskafe-com, the former world No 3 is expected to be out of action for just over a month and he will miss three ATP Tour events, namely the Swedish Open (July 14 start), the Canadian Open (July 28) and the Cincinnati Open (August 7).

That means he should be fit for the final Grand Slam of the year, the US Open, which gets underway at Flushing Meadows in New York on August 24.
Dimitrov is currently No 21 in the ATP Rankings and he only has 110 points to defend until the season-ending major as he lost in the round of 16 in Canada last year while he suffered a first-round defeat in Cincinnati.
He reached the quarter-final of the 2024 US Open so he will drop 400 points, which could result in a slump outside of the top 30 in the rankings.
Dimitrov has a 17-11 record so far in 2025 with his best performance a run to the semi-final of the Miami Open, a tournament he finished runner-up the previous year. His last title was in January 2024 when he beat Holger Rune in the final of the Brisbane International.
He didn’t play any grass-court events in the lead-up to Wimbledon as he was recovering from a thigh injury which forced him to retire from his opening match at Roland Garros.
