Juan Martin del Potro: I’m not thinking too much about the Slams

It would be easy for Juan Martin del Potro to focus on the majors after his recent success, but the Argentine prefers to “just enjoy the moment”.
The 29-year-old heads into this week’s Miami Open in excellent form as he won the Mexican Open at the start of March and then secured his maiden ATP Masters title last week with victory over Roger Federer in the Indian Wells final.
He is the form player on the Tour and it would be natural for him to start thinking about adding another Grand Slam to his collection, but Del Potro is just focusing on his next task: the Miami event.
“I’m not thinking too much about the Slams,” he said.
“I’m just enjoying the moment. I know what I have been through to get this time and this place and this ranking.
“I am still calm, you know. I came here to play another tournament. It will be my fourth tournament in a row. I’m tired. And mentally and physically it’s not easy to deal with all of these emotions, no?
“But then I will have a break, I will see what tournament we play on clay, because my body feels that surface, and I want to stay healthy during the whole season. That’s my biggest goal. Then I will see if can still surprise myself and see what can I do.”
