Lorenzo Musetti reveals his favourite stop on the ATP Tour
Emerging Italian star Lorenzo Musetti has opened up on what the travel schedule for the ATP Tour is like.
Musetti says that you cannot be an ATP Tour professional if you don’t like travel.
He says that he enjoys jet-setting and doesn’t mind the nomadic life.
“It’s one of the nicest things we have in this sport and in our life,” Musetti told ATPTour.com.
“You cannot be a tennis player if you don’t like travelling, it would be some sort of opposite thing. For us, we travel the world to try to discover new places, new countries. For me it’s kind of fun and something I’ve always liked. That’s why also I play tennis.”
Musetti says that having headphones and good music is essential for him while he is travelling.
Asked what two items he can’t do without that aren’t tennis related, Musetti added: “Probably headphones and a speaker. I’m pretty obsessed with the music, so I’d say those two things.
Musetti couldn’t name a favourite track but says he has lots of playlists that he enjoys.
“I have a lot of playlists,” he said.
“It depends on the mood and when. Right now, I have some Italian songs.”
He has had a headphone related mishap before when he misplaced his favourite pair on a flight to Canada.
“I have forgotten headphones on the plane,” Musetti said.
“I remember it was in Canada so it was not easy. I tried to contact the airline but no lucky results. It was when I was playing juniors.”
Musetti says that while he loves to travel he hasn’t ever chosen a tournament based on his desire to visit the city it is held in.
“I’ve had the opportunity to visit a lot of cities for tennis but I never choose one tournament for the city,” Musetti went on.
“I’d say it’s for the condition or for the tournament instead.”
Musetti revealed the city that he enjoys visiting most, outside of those in his home nation, is US Open venue New York.
“Not including Italy, I would say I like New York a lot,” Musetti said.
“The energy that the city gives you is something unreal. I always like to go to the US Open.
“Times Square is something you live like in a movie. It’s something really memorable, especially your first time there.”
As for holiday locations, Musetti enjoys the ATP Tour hotspot in the Maldives.
“Last year I went to Maldives and it was really, really nice,” Musetti claimed.
