Lorenzo Musetti sports ‘girlfriend-approved’ new look
Rising Italian star Lorenzo Musetti has turned up in Toronto sporting a new look after a haircut that he cleared with his girlfriend.
Musetti felt that the new look would also be more comfortable in the humidity of Toronto in August.
He added that it hasn’t really been cool in Italy either, and Musetti certainly looks fresh.
“You know, it’s been quite a long time that I didn’t make the decision to cut short the hair,” Musetti said in a Tennis Channel interview.
“But Italy was so hot and I couldn’t move with the ponytail because I had really messy hair and I didn’t like it.”
Musetti’s girlfriend Veronica Confalonieri, apparently gave her approval to the new look.
Confalonieri works in sport broadcasting as a graphic designer at Sky Sport (Italy).
“So I finally decided with my girlfriend that she approved. The joint decision, even with my family. But I mean, I think I look a little bit younger. With the longer hair, I was a little bit older. I mean, the look,” Musetti said.
The couple made their relationship public when they announced they were dating on Instagram last year.
Musetti’s fresh appearance appeared to benefit him on the court as well, as he defeated Nishioka in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 to move on to the Canadian Open’s second round.
On Wednesday 9 August No 16 seed Musetti will play Canadian Open qualifier Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round.
That clash will be the first between the players on the ATP Tour.
Musetti has advanced to the semifinals in Bastad and Barcelona and the quarterfinals in Hamburg, London, Stuttgart, Monte-Carlo, Morocco, and Argentina this term already.
Kokkinakis, who endured of illness and injury-plagued seasons, has also had an incredible comeback season. He won a Challenger Tour event in Bahrain and advanced to the semifinals of Adelaide 2, however he has not been as active as he might have liked this term.
In Toronto, Kokkinakis has already defeated Zhang Zhizhen in the first round of the main draw and defeated Borna Gojo and Constant Lestienne in the qualifying rounds giving him familiarity with the courts.
However, since Musetti is much more confident and has a higher ranking, he will be the favourite to come out on top.
Thanasi Kokkinakis has demonstrated his ability to persevere in the face of adversity and he won’t be a simple opponent for Musetti.
