Marin Cilic dumped out of Rio Open by Gael Monfils
World number three Marin Cilic was dumped out of the Rio Open in rain-plagued conditions by Frenchman Gael Monfils.
Monfils will now play Diego Schwartzman in the quarter-final after overcoming Cilic 6-3 7-6 (10/8).
Fourth seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas lost 7-5 6-3 to Nicolas Jarry, who will now play Pablo Cuevas after his 7-5 6-1 success over Gastao Elias.
Dominic Thiem, the second seed, progressed when opponent Pablo Andujar retired during the first set.
Fernando Verdasco, Aljaz Bedene and Fabio Fognino also went through.
