Matteo Berrettini +10 in rankings as he reaches milestone after winning back-to-back titles

Matteo Berrettini’s resurgence continues with the former world No 6 set to return to the top 40 of the ATP Rankings following back-to-back titles.
The Italian has followed up last week’s Swiss Open title with another trophy as he captured the Austrian Open Kitzbühel with a straight-set win over Hugo Gaston in the final.
“It’s been a crazy two weeks, playing some of my best tennis,” he said after his latest title run. “Congratulations to Gaston – sorry, Hugo. He had a great tournament.”
Before adding: “I’ll be quick, I’m tired.”
The 2021 Wimbledon winner has won 10 consecutive matches over the past two weeks and he has won the two tournaments without dropping a set. He also joins Carlos Alcaraz on three titles so far in 2024 with Jannik Sinner leading the race with four trophies
Just over four months ago Berrettini found himself outside the top 150 in the rankings as his injury woes forced him to miss the Australian Open.
He suffered a first-round loss to Andy Murray on his ATP Tour comeback at the Miami Open in March, but a few weeks later he won his eighth singles title when he defeated Roberto Carballés Baena in the Grand Prix Hassan II final.

After a tentative start to the European clay-court season, he then missed the Madrid Open, Italian Open and French Open due to illness before returning for the grass-court campaign.
It was nearly a perfect comeback as he finished runner-up to Jack Draper at the Stuttgart Open, but he remained outside the top 50 and it cost him a place on the Italian squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics
He then suffered an early exit at Wimbledon as he went down against Sinner, but the return to clay has been a blessing for Berrettini as he has now won two titles in the space of two weeks.
Berrettini on the rise
The Italian started the year at No 92 in the ATP Rankings, but his absence from the Australian Open saw him slump out of the top 100 and he then dropped to outside the top 150 at the start of April.
But his run in Stuttgart helped him to return to the top 70 while last week’s ATP 250 title saw him surge 32 places to No 50.
The 28-year-old will now get another 10-place boost and he is provisionally back in the top 40 for the first time since August last year.
