Nick Kyrgios adds another US Open warm-up event tournament to his North American hard-court swing
Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios will make his first appearance at the Western & Southern Open since 2019 after accepting a wildcard entry into the ATP Masters 1000 event.
The Australian finished runner-up at the Cincinnati tournament in 2017, beating Rafael Nadal en route to the final where he lost against Grigor Dimitrov.
Kyrgios has been on a break following his brilliant run to the Wimbledon final and he will make his return to competitive action at the Atlanta Open against Germany’s Peter Gojowczyk on Wednesday.
He will then take part in the Citi Open, a tournament he won in 2019, before heading to Ohio.

The 27-year-old lost against Novak Djokovic on Championship Sunday at Wimbledon, but he admitted in a recent interview that his Wimbledon heroics took several days to sink in.
“It actually hit me a week after that I got to a Grand Slam final at Wimbledon and lost,” he said.
“It is sad in a way, but it has been great. I’ve got a little pad here in the Bahamas and spend a good week here, downtime and training, but it has been a hectic couple of weeks since the final.”
The Cincinnati line-up will also feature world No 1 Daniil Medvedev, defending champion Alexander Zverev, Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Carlos Alcaraz.
World No 7 Novak Djokovic’s name remains on the entry list, but it is unlikely that the 21-time Grnad Slam winner will play as he is unable to enter the United States due to his unvaccinated status.
