Grand Slam king Rafael Nadal also sports an impressive record at ATP 1000 Masters events, having passed 400 wins at events of that level during his 2022 Indian Wells run.
Nadal claimed his first ATP 1000 event title at the 2005 Monte Carlo Masters and went on to add the Italian Open, Canadian Open and Shanghai Masters in a phenomenal breakout season.
His Monte Carlo Masters title proved to be the catalyst to a successful clay court season, first Grand Slam title and announced the arrival of a megastar.
Nadal’s first ATP 1000 match win had also come in Monte Carlo in 2003 when he beat Karol Kucera, 6-1, 6-2, in the first round.
He would win eight Monte Carlo Masters titles on the trot, dominating the event from 2005 until 2012 with his 46-match winning streak at the event ending in the 2013 final.
The Miami Open has proven elusive to Nadal down the years and is the only outdoor ATP 1000 title that he is yet to win. It was, however, the scene of his 100th ATP 1000 match win over Thomas Berdych in the 2008 semifinal.
After the Monter Carlo Master, the Italian Open has also proven a happy hunting ground for Nadal who has lifted the trophy ten of the 17 times he has turned out in Rome.
Andy Murray made Nadal work hard for his 200th ATP 1000 match win which came in, you guessed it, Monte Carlo.
In 2013 Nadal lost just three times in the 38 ATP 1000 event matches.
Nadal also has a patchy record in Shanghai, but it looks like he won’t get a chance to improve with the ATP reluctant to do business in China.
Nadal’s 300th Masters win came in China’s biggest city, when he beat Stan Wawrinka to reach the semifinals in 2015.
Nadal began his current Masters winning streak with victory over Jannik Sinner at the 2021 Italian Open.
Nadal secured his 400th ATP 1000 win at Indian Wells, as the event returned to its traditional March slot in the schedule.
