Rafael Nadal’s 2022 calendar taking shape as his comeback date and tournament are confirmed

Rafael Nadal is set to make his competitive return from injury at the Melbourne Summer Set Open in early January.
Having opted to skip the ATP Cup – which will feature most of the big-name players including Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev – 20-time Grand Slam winner Nadal will kick off his campaign at the ATP 250 event.
The Spaniard has endured another injury-disrupted campaign as he missed Wimbledon, the Tokyo Olympics and the US Open because of a foot problem.
He last set foot on the court in August at the Washington Open, but aggravated his injury and was forced to call an early end to his campaign.
However, he will make a tentative comeback at the exhibition Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi next week before kicking off his Australian Open preparation in Melbourne in January.
The Spaniard will be joined at the January 3-9 tournament by former Grand Slam finalists Kei Nishikori and Kevin Anderson as well as 2017 ATP Finals champion Grigor Dimitrov.
