Record prize money of $53 million on offer at the 2018 US Open

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has announced another increase in prize money for this year’s tournament.

The total pool for the 2018 event at Flushing Meadows will be $53 million (£40.6 million), up $2.6 million from last year’s $50.4 million, which was also a record for Grand Slams.

This year’s men’s and women’s singles champions will each pocket $3.8 million (£2.9 million), which is a $100,000 increase on 2017 while the runner-ups will walk away with $1.85 million each.

“2018 is a significant year in our history,” USTA Chairman of the Board and President Katrina Adams said in a statement.

“Not only is it the 50th anniversary of the tournament, we also have completed the five-year transformation of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. We know that we are poised for incredible growth moving forward.”

The men’s and women’s doubles winners will take home $700,000.

The 2018 US Open runs from August 27 until September 9.
