Roger Federer still eyeing 21st Slam and would ‘love to get to 100’ titles
His form may have dipped in recent months, but Roger Federer has not given up hope of winning a 21st Grand Slam and reaching 100 ATP Tour singles titles.
Federer won the Australian Open at the start of the year to take his major tally to 20 and then won the Stuttgart Open in June to take his singles trophy record to 98.
A few months later and he is still “stuck” on those two numbers and, after disappointing exits at Wimbledon and the US Open, many are wondering if his glory days are finally over.
The 37-year-old, though, believes there is more to come.
“If I am still on Tour, it is because I believe I can still win tournaments, still beat the best and I’m showing that,” he told Chinese television network CGTN.
“I think Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open definitely will give me an opportunity to maybe chase my 21st.
“[But] I’m also ok if it doesn’t happen.
“Although, don’t get me wrong, the last few years have been an absolute dream run for me winning three.
“I’m on 98 titles now, I would love to get to 100.
“It is something I’ve said publicly already but if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen. But the feeling is there that I could do it.
“As long as I enjoy myself, my family is fine and my wife is enjoying herself still on tour, I’ll keep playing.
“Of course the body also has to be there for me but life on the tour is good and I’m looking forward to what is to come.”
