Roger Federer: There is more to come from Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic still has a “little bit of extra to go” before he reaches his peak again, that’s the view from Roger Federer.
After a stuttering start to the 2018 season following elbow surgery, the Serb enjoyed a dream second half to the campaign as he won Wimbledon and the US Open while he also became the first man to win all nine ATP Masters 1000 titles when he won the Cincinnati Masters.
He is back up to No 3 in the world rankings behind Rafael Nadal and Federer and his victory at Flushing Meadows also helped him to equal Pete Sampras’ record of 14 Grand Slams.
It means he is now just six majors adrift of Federer’s record of 20 and three behind the second-placed Nadal.
“I think that there is more to come from Novak,” Federer said while attending an Andy Roddick Foundation charity event in Texas. “I still don’t even think he is playing his absolute best since his injury.
“He is playing very, very well, but I think in his best years, a few years ago, when he was almost, virtually, unbeatable I still think he has a little bit extra to go. So I think that’s very encouraging for him.
“A lot to look forward to for Novak, no doubt about it. And what an accomplishment it is to equal Pete’s record. That record seemed so far away for all of us, you know for so many years.”
