Albert Ramos-Vinolas has been dumped out of the Grand Prix Hassan II by qualifier Alexey Vatutin in Marrakech.

The Spaniard and the competition’s top seed who normally excels on clay, failed to find any rhythm at all against the world number 160 7-6 (7/4) 6-2 in Morocco.

Philipp Kohlschreiber was also on the receiving end of a shock, as home favourite and world number 617 Lamine Ouahab defeated him 2-6 6-0 7-6 (7/3) despite trailing 5-2 in the deciding set.

Fourth seed Richard Gasquet avoided an upset, though, as he beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-2 6-4.

Gasquet’s fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon beat Roberto Carballes Baena 7-5 6-1, Malek Jaziri overcame Marton Fucsovics 1-6 6-4 6-2, and there were also wins for Pablo Andujar and Radu Albot.
