Top seeds Kevin Anderson and Sam Querrey both advance in New York

Top seed Kevin Anderson was pushed to a third-set tie-breaker before overcoming Ernesto Escobedo 3-6 6-4 7-6 (7/5) to advance to the quarter-finals in New York.

He will next face highly-rated American Frances Tiafoe, who will be making his ATP World Tour quarter-final debut after defeating Dudi Sela 6-4 3-6 6-0.

Elsewhere, another American and number two seed Sam Querrey comfortably progressed past Mikhail Youzhny, hitting 13 aces to beat the Russian 6-4 6-3.

Croatian Ivo Karlovic also dominated with his serve, striking 16 aces en-route to defeating sixth seed Ryan Harrison 6-4 6-4.
