Australian Open prize money and points: How much will Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka earn if they defend their titles?
The total prize money for the 2025 Australian Open has increased by 11.56 per cent year on year and the singles winners of this year’s tournament will go home with a A$3.5 million (about £1.74m and US$2.17m) cheque.
The prize pool for this year’s season-opening Grand Slam stands at A$96.5 million ($59.90m), a A$10m increase from the A$86.5m in 2024 while it has more than doubled since 2016 when it was A$44m.
Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka are the defending singles champions at Melbourne Park and they each received A$3.15m for their work over the fortnight last year, but that total will increase by 11 per cent to A$3.5m in 2025.
In comparison to the other Grand Slams, Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek earned €2.4m (US$2.5m) after winning last year’s French Open, Alcaraz and Barbora Krejcikova received £2.7m (US$3.3m) at Wimbledon while Sinner and Sabalenka were rewarded $3.6m at the US Open at Flushing Meadows.

The ranking points on offer remains the same as the winners will earn 2,000 points while the runners-up will add 1,300 to their tally in the ATP and WTA Rankings.
But on the flip side, players also have to defend the points they earned last year so Sinner and Sabalenka will drop the 2,000 points they picked up in 2024 at the start of this year’s tournament and then have to start earning points again for victory in each round.
