‘Confused’ Naomi Osaka apologies to Jennifer Brady after ‘Jennifer, Jenny’ mistake during speech

Some thought it was a gaffe, others thought it was deliberate, but Naomi Osaka has explained her Jennifer Brady mistake during the Australian Open final on-court speeches.
Osaka beat the American 6-4, 6-3 at Melbourne Park on Saturday evening to win a fourth Grand Slam title.
During the post-match presentation Osaka asked her opponent if she wanted to be referred to as “Jenny” or “Jennifer” and Brady replied “Jenny”.
However, Osaka continued her speech by saying: “Firstly, I want to congratulate Jennifer.”
Much to the amusement of the crowd.
I love how Naomi Osaka politely asked Jennifer Brady if she preferred to be called “Jennifer” or “Jenny,” then completely ignored what she said 😆pic.twitter.com/b8UzciMQnF

While some thought it was a deliberate, Osaka clarified on Twitter that she was simply confused and apologised.
Omg no 😭😩 I promise you my mind thought I called her Jenny in that moment and I was so confused why the crowd was laughing. I’m so sorry 😣 https://t.co/fqS3nPBb1C
