She’s done it! Caroline Wozniacki wins Australian Open

Caroline Wozniacki can call herself a Grand Slam winner at last after beating Simona Halep in an epic Australian Open final.
The Dane, twice a runner-up at the US Open, beat Halep 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 6-4 in two hours and 50 minutes on Rod Laver Arena to claim the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup.

Wozniacki was the early aggressor and went 3-0 up in the first set after breaking in the second game, but the Romanian fought back in the ninth game and it went to the tie-breaker.
The Dane again took charge early on and this time she didn’t relinquish the advantage.
Halep was now in full flow, but she soon started to move a little gingerly and called for the physio during the fifth game. Her blood pressure and heart rate were checked, but she continued.
Despite not moving well, Halep was the one to break in the seventh game and found herself serving for the set at 5-3. Wozniacki threw everything at her as he tried to make her opponent move a bit more, but the Romanian held firm to take it to a decider.
The 10-minute heat rule was imposed after the second set and Wozniacki again came out all guns blazing and went 2-0 up, but again Halep produced a colossal effort to get back on serve by converting the sixth break point.
And it turned into a real rollercoaster as there were another three breaks of serve and it was Halep who came out on top to lead 4-3.
Wozniacki needed a medical time after being broken as the trainer strapped her knee and somehow held her nerve to break back and then went ahead 5-4.
It was left to Halep to serve to stay in the match, but the Dane went all out and when Halep hit a return into the net, she fell to the ground and started crying.
That was that as Caroline Wozniacki won her maiden Grand Slam and also reclaimed the world No 1 ranking from Halep.
