Tennis Today: Tomic counts his money, money, money

In Tennis Today, Bernard Tomic is “counting his millions” despite not qualifying for the Australian Open, while Novak Djokvic wants players to demand more money from the ATP.
What’s on the site
Day 1 at the Australian Open hasn’t been too kind to the seeds so far as Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund stunned US Open finalist Kevin Anderson while American John Isner was sent packing by local hero Matthew Ebden.
On the women’s side, reigning US Open champion Sloane Stephens is also out and she was joined on the early exit list by American compatriot Venus Williams.
And speaking of upsets, our Top 10 Australian Open giant killings are very much relevant after Monday’s shock results. Go on, give it a read.
And in case you were wondering who we have our money on, Tennis365 tipster Deggsy Bilton is backing Grigor Dimitrov for the title Down Under and Karolina Pliskova for the women’s title.
What’s in the news
As you will know by now, enfant terrible Bernard Tomic failed to make the main draw of the Australian Open after losing his third-round qualifier.
When asked by a camera crew where does he go from here, the Australian replied: “I just count money, that’s all I do. I count my millions.
“You go do what I did [on court]. Bye bye.”
Tomic, of course, has form for this kind of thing as he previously told reporters “would you care if you were 23 and worth over $10m?”
Here is Andy Roddick’s take on it.
Maybe stop for a second and think of the millions you’ve left on the table …. https://t.co/t27GA4WHyG

Self inflicted ….. no sympathy here. I’m not upset for you defending anyone you want to. I just strongly disagree. Feel free to write what you want in your account … I’ll handle mine https://t.co/czVPsVtEk5

Staying with money matters, The Daily Mail reveals that “Novak Djokovic recently stunned a meeting consisting of fellow tennis pros” by saying “they deserve more money”.
According to the paper, one player at the meeting said: “People were shocked.”
Wonder who that player is.
The Guardian says Djokovic has sparked fears of a revolt from the players.
The Sun, of course, has the important things covered in “PERFECT MATCH Who is Jelena Djokovic?”
There is some good news for Australian tennis fans as Nick Kyrgios is doing his bit to help underprivileged youth through his NK Foundation.
In an interview with The Herald Sun, the Aussie is quoted as saying: “I’ve been wanting to do something like this since I was about 19.”

Dominic Thiem interviews his best friend Dennis Novak, but unfortunately Dennis lost his opening match against Grigor Dimitrov.
Roger Federer meeting a few superheroes.
Venus Williams’ early exit means there will be no Williams sister in the second round…
Last time there was no Williams sister in the @AustralianOpen 2nd round:
Graf was #1 in the world;
Hingis hadn’t won a singles slam;
Tiger hadn’t won a major;
Rafa was in primary school;
Boomer Harvey had played 1 game
