In Tennis Today, Bernard Tomic is “counting his millions” despite not qualifying for the Australian Open, while Novak Djokvic wants players to demand more money from the ATP.

Day 1 at the Australian Open hasn’t been too kind to the seeds so far as Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund stunned US Open finalist Kevin Anderson while American John Isner was sent packing by local hero Matthew Ebden.

On the women’s side, reigning US Open champion Sloane Stephens is also out and she was joined on the early exit list by American compatriot Venus Williams.

What’s in the news
As you will know by now, enfant terrible Bernard Tomic failed to make the main draw of the Australian Open after losing his third-round qualifier.

When asked by a camera crew where does he go from here, the Australian replied: “I just count money, that’s all I do. I count my millions.

“You go do what I did [on court]. Bye bye.”

Tomic, of course, has form for this kind of thing as he previously told reporters “would you care if you were 23 and worth over $10m?”

Staying with money matters, The Daily Mail reveals that “Novak Djokovic recently stunned a meeting consisting of fellow tennis pros” by saying “they deserve more money”.

According to the paper, one player at the meeting said: “People were shocked.”

Wonder who that player is.

The Guardian says Djokovic has sparked fears of a revolt from the players.

There is some good news for Australian tennis fans as Nick Kyrgios is doing his bit to help underprivileged youth through his NK Foundation.

In an interview with The Herald Sun, the Aussie is quoted as saying: “I’ve been wanting to do something like this since I was about 19.”
