Wimbledon 2018 bookie report: Day two featuring David Ferrer and Sam Stosur
Sebastian Sternik is back with Wimbledon betting tips ahead of day two.
The first day of Wimbledon proved to be a very entertaining on, however it wasn’t exactly profitable from the bookies point of view.
This time round there are a few bets which could prove to be fruitful. For instance, David Ferrer is currently 37/10 to win his game against Karen Khachanov.
The Spaniard has endured a very disappointing season so far and despite his huge wealth of experience, it is the 22-year-old Russian who is the favourite. However, we cannot write off the 36-year-old just yet.
As we saw on Monday with Stan Wawrinka, Wimbledon is a stage where anything is possible. The huge price is no doubt justified but, it cannot be ignored.
Another possible outsider shot could be Nikoloz Basilashvili who is currently 12/5 to beat Gilles Simon.
Frenchman Simon has won only one game on grass this season and looked far from convincing in his last three games (all defeats). The Georgian hasn’t set the world alight either, but at least he has managed to grind out wins which is something his opponent has struggled to do lately.
A bet that looks more and more appetising in the women’s draw is the 17/14 on Sofia Kenin to beat Maria Sakkari.
While Kenin is only 19 and will be making her Wimbledon debut, it’s important to remember that this debut was awarded through direct entry after her world ranking improved from 165 to 76.
Sakkari, on the other hand, has only played three games on grass this season; losing two of them in Eastbourne and Birmingham. While she is without a doubt the favourite, Kenin is the play due to the sheer momentum that she is bringing with her to this game.
Finally, the fourth bet on day two has to be Samantha Stosur to beat Shuai Peng at 16/19. While Stosur is ranked over 40 places lower than Peng, she has a hugely superior head to head record and is coming into this clash with good recent results under her belt.
Meanwhile, Peng has only played on grass once this season and that ended in a 2-1 defeat to Romania’s Mihaela Buzarnescu.
Bets
David Ferrer 17/10
Nikoloz Basilashvili 12/5
Maria Kenin 17/14
Samantha Stosur 16/19
