Now that she has a Grand Slam to her name, Caroline Wozniacki knows she has “a target to her back”.

The Dane finally broke her major duck at the start of the year as she won the Australian Open by beating Simona Halep in the final.

It means the 2018 French Open marks the first time that she has started a Grand Slam as a major winner and she got her campaign off to a solid 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 victory over American Danielle Collins.

“It feels great, a little bit less pressure,” the world No 2 said after the match. “I kind of feel like I have one Grand Slam now, so no matter what happens, no one can take that away from me. I’m just out here trying to enjoy every match and every moment of it.”

She added: “I think [having won a Grand Slam title] definitely gives you confidence. But, you know, it’s a new tournament, a new day, and you just have to be out there and keep grinding, keep trying to be better every day.

“I think that’s really the main thing. You know you have a target on your back and everyone wants to find a way to beat you. But I embrace the challenge, and I love it.”
