Next Generation ATP Finals champion Joao Fonseca will be the youngest player in the main draw of 2025 Australian Open men’s singles event while Jakub Mensik is the highest-ranked teenager.

Brazilian youngster Fonseca enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2024 and he is expected to continue his rise this season is already in the top 50 of the ATP Rankings.

Two American teens also make the cut while Shang Juncheng is the only one on the list to have won an ATP Tour singles title.

6. Shang Juncheng – 19 and nine months

Shang Juncheng is one month shy of his 20th birthday, but he already has one ATP title to his name and is currently at No 50 in the rankings.

Shang finished runner-up in the 2022 US Open boys’ singles final and two years later he became the second Chinese man to win an ATP title when he lifted the Chengdu Open in September 2024.

5. Nishesh Basavareddy – 19 and eight months

American teenager Nishesh Basavareddy will make his Grand Slam debut at the 2025 Australian Open and he couldn’t have asked for a bigger first-round match as he will face 24-time major winner Novak Djokovic.

Basavareddy, who only turned professional in December 2024, received a wildcard entry into the season-opening major.

4. Jakub Mensik – 19 years and four months

Czech star Jakub Mensik sits at a career-high No 41 in the ATP Rankings with his best runs coming at the US Open as he twice reached the third round.

The teenager reached his maiden ATP Tour final last year, but finished runner-up to Karen Khachanov at the Qatar Open while has claimed top-10 wins over the likes of Andrey Rublev and Grigor Dimitrov.

3. Learner Tien – 19 years and one month

American Learner Tien made his Grand Slam debut at the 2022 US Open at the age of 16 and the following year he finished runner-up at the 2023 Australian Open and US Open boys’ junior finals.

In 2024 he reached his maiden ATP quarter-final with the achievement coming at the Winston-Salem Open while he also finished runner-up at the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals.

2. Martin Landaluce – 19 years and 0 months

Martin Landaluce has come through the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy and will make his Grand Slam debut at the 2025 Australian Open after winning three qualifying matches.

He won the 2022 US Open boys’ singles title and claimed his maiden top-level debut at the Madrid Open last year.

1. Joao Fonseca – 18 years and four months

Joao Fonseca made his ATP debut as a 16-year-old at the 2023 Rio Open and the following year he claimed his maiden top-level win at the same tournament, reaching the quarter-final.

Having started the 2024 season at No 730, Fonseca finished at No 145 while he also won the Next Gen ATP Finals where no points ranking points are awarded.

The Brazilian, who started the year with the Canberra Challenger Tour title, will make his Grand Slam debut at the 2025 Australian Open, having come through qualifying.
