Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard clocked a 153 miles per hour (246.23km/h) serve on day one of Wimbledon 2025 and entered the Grand Slam record books.

Standing at 6 ft 8 in (2.03m), Mpetshi Perricard is always a threat in terms of fastest serves as he told the official ATP Tour website before the grass-court Grand Slam that he wants to keep points as short as possible.

“My game is very fast – big serve, short rallies,” the Frenchman said. “On a surface like grass, it can really make a difference. It can help me…

“I’m not sure what other players think, but obviously when I’m playing someone who serves big and plays fast, like [Reilly] Opelka, it’s not very pleasant to know you don’t have control over the points. But that’s part of the game: Everyone has their style and that’s what makes this sport beautiful.”

So it was no surprise when he set a new record for the fastest-ever recorded men’s serve at Wimbledon, which is also the best in terms of the four Grand Slams.

The milestone came in the opening game of the match against Taylor Fritz as he sent down his 153mph rocket but the American somehow managed to return it and ended up winning the point.

According to the official All England Club record books, the previous best at Wimbledon was by Taylor Dent in 2010 when he sent down a 148mph serve while Venus Williams holds the women’s record as she 129mph in 2008.

In terms of Grand Slams, Oscar Otte held the record as he served 151.0mph (243.0km/h) in the fourth round of the 2021 US Open, which puts him joint-13th on the all-time list.

But where does Mpetshi Perricard’s feat slot in?

The 21-year-old’s missile is the ninth-fastest recorded tennis serve, but he is higher up in terms of top-level tennis as a few of the serves that were faster were recorded on ATP Challenger Tour.

8. Chris Guccione – 154.1mph

Australian Guccione recorded his 248.0 km/h milestone serve during his country’s first-round Davis Cup win over Switzerland in 2006.

7. Andy Roddick 155mph

Two years before Guccione’s feat, Andy Roddick produced 249.4km/h serve in the Davis Cup during the United States’ win over Belarus in the semi-final.

At the time it was the fastest-recorded serve in Davis Cup history, but it has since been beaten twice.

6. Milos Raonic – 155.3mph

Big-serving Canadian Raonic actually holds the record for the fastest serve in ATP Tour events with his feat coming in the second round of the 2012 SAP Open. Those ahead of him on the list produced their milestones at either the Davis Cup or ATP Challenger Tour level.

=4. Ivo Karlovic and Jerzy Janowicz – 156mph

Croatian giant Karlovic set a new record for fastest serve in Davis Cup history when he blasted a 251km/h missile during his country’s first-round clash against Germany in 2011.

The following year, Pole Janowicz joined him on 156.0mph as he equalled that mark during the Pekao Szczecin Open on the ATP Challenger Tour.

3. John Isner – 157.2mph

American Isner holds the record for fastest top-level serve with his 253.0km/h feat coming in the United States’ 2016 Davis Cup tie against Australia.

2. Albano Olivetti – 160mph

Frenchman Olivetti briefly held the record as he recorded his 257.5km/h serve during the 2012 Internazionali Trofeo Lame Perrel–Faip, which took place in February.

1. Sam Groth – 163.7mph

Not long after Olivetti set the record, Australian Groth went better as he sent down a 263.4km/h serve at the Busan Open Challenger Tennis with the ATP Challenger Tour staged in May 2012.
