Novak Djokovic possesses many impressive records, from 24 Grand Slam titles to 428 weeks ranked as the world No 1, to eight year-end No 1 trophies. However, his record on hard courts is particularly impressive – boasting 724 match victories on his favourite surface.

In America, more specifically, the Serb has played 274 hard-court matches and came out the victor in 230 of them – an 84% match-win rate. This includes 18 titles, with multiple wins over his biggest rivals.

Here, we attempt to explore his hard-court record in America – broken down into four key events.

Indian Wells

Djokovic has played 61 matches at the first Masters 1000 event of the year, winning 50 of them.

The Serb is a five-time Indian Wells champion, lifting the trophy aloft in 2008, 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2016.

Djokovic leads the event for most consecutive matches won, with 19 from 2014 to 2017 – ending at the hands of Nick Kyrgios.

The 51 match wins include nine against top 10 players and 18 against players ranked inside the world’s top 20.

In the 2021, 2022, and 2023 editions, Djokovic was absent – due to injury and vaccination requirements – returning to the event in 2024, before losing in the third round to Luca Nardi.

Miami Open

The Masters 1000 event in Miami is Djokovic’s most successful American hard-court event, having won six titles there – in 2007, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion has played 52 matches and came out as the victor in 45 of them.

Djokovic’s trophy haul in Miami is the most won by any man, a record he shares with Andre Agassi.

The title in 2007 made him the youngest-ever player to win the Miami Open, at just 19 years old, before Carlos Alcaraz claimed the record in 2022.

Djokovic has 11 top 10 wins in Miami, with 19 victories over top 20 players.

His campaigns across Indian Wells and Miami have led to four ‘Sunshine Doubles’ (winning both titles in the same season) – more than any player, male or female.

The Serb’s most recent appearance at the event was in 2019, where he lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in the fourth-round.

Cincinnati Open

Djokovic has three Cincinnati titles and possesses 45 victories out of 57 matches.

Despite his success, his route to each was not a straightforward one.

He appeared in five finals at the event before claiming his first title, losing three of them to seven-time champion Roger Federer and the other two to Andy Murray.

However, in 2018, the superstar got his hands on the trophy – fittingly against Federer in the final, after a tournament where he was on the brink of defeat in the third round.

In 2020, the tournament was relocated to the site of the US Open – due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic – which proved fruitful for Djokovic, clawing his way back from a set and a break down against Milos Raonic in the final to claim a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Three years later, Djokovic would face a rematch of that year’s Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz. The two produced what went on to be the tournament’s longest-ever match, with the Spaniard failing to capitalise on a championship point in the second set – before Djokovic prevailed 7-6(4) in the third.

That historic final is his most recent appearance.

US Open

The tournament represents the final Grand Slam of each season, proving a tough challenge to players after a grueling year.

Djokovic has displayed remarkable consistency at the New York event, reaching the final on 10 occasions and claiming 90 match victories.

His match victories, combined with his 104 overall matches played, has led him to have the second-highest winning percentage of any male player at the event (minimum 30 matches) – with 86.5% compared to Pete Sampras’ 88.8%.

Altogether, Djokovic has four titles – claimed in 2011, 2015, 2018, and 2023.

In 2021, the former world No 1 had the elusive opportunity to win all four Grand Slam in the same year – named the ‘calendar slam’ – but fell in straight sets to Daniil Medvedev, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

His most recent appearance was a third-round 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 loss to Alexi Popyrin.
