French Open: The 5 men with the best win rate without securing the title: ft. Murray, Zverev & Ruud

Andy Murray stars among the top five male players without a French Open title based on win percentage at the tournament.
There are three active ATP players on the list, while two of the men who feature have won other Grand Slam titles.
Here, we look at the five men with the best win rate at the French Open among players not to claim the title (minimum of 25 matches played).
5. Arthur Ashe – 75.8%
Arthur Ashe amassed a 25-8 record (75.8%) across his eight appearances at the French Open, where he made his debut in 1969 and last appearance in 1979.
The American’s best results at Roland Garros are runs to the quarter-finals in 1970 and 1971, while he reached the fourth round a further five times.
Ashe won the other three majors, having triumphed at the US Open in 1968, the Australian Open in 1970 and Wimbledon in 1975.
4. Andy Murray – 76.5%
Andy Murray compiled a 39-12 record (76.5%) from his 12 appearances at the French Open, where he made his debut in 2006 and last played in 2024.
The Brit was a finalist at the clay-court Grand Slam in 2016, when he was beaten by Novak Djokovic in four sets. He also fell at the semi-final stage on four occasions and lost in the last eight twice.
3. Stefanos Tsitsipas – 77.1%
Stefanos Tsitsipas holds a 27-8 record (77.1%) record from the 35 matches he has played at the French Open to date. He made his debut in 2017 and played his most recent match in the first round of the 2025 event, where he is making his ninth appearance.
The Greek was a runner-up at Roland Garros in 2021, losing to Djokovic in five sets after leading by two sets to love. He also reached the semi-finals in 2020 and the quarter-finals in both 2023 and 2024.

2. Casper Ruud – 77.4%
Casper Ruud has accumulated a 24-7 record from the 31 matches he has played at Roland Garros to date, having made his debut in 2018. He is making his eighth appearance in 2025.
The Norwegian is a two-time French Open runner-up, having fallen to Rafael Nadal and Djokovic in the respective 2022 and 2023 title matches — both in straight sets. Ruud also reached the semi-finals in 2024.
He was a finalist at the US Open in 2022.
1. Alexander Zverev – 79.5%
Alexander Zverev holds a 35-9 record across his 44 matches at the French Open so far, having made his first appearance in 2016. He is playing the event for the 10th time in 2025.
The German accomplished his best finish at the Paris major in 2024, when he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set championship match. He exited at the last four stage in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Zverev has also been a runner-up at the US Open in 2020 and the Australian Open in 2025.
