Carlos Alcaraz cemented his place as arguably the leading grass-court player of his generation this weekend, winning his fourth title on the surface with triumph at the Queen’s Club.

The 22-year-old has already achieved huge success on grass, with just three losses in 32 matches, and now boasts a 12-match winning streak on the surface.

Spain is not a nation always associated with grass-court success, with the clay-courts of Europe playing host to the majority of the nation’s greatest tennis triumphs.

Alcaraz has already cemented his place as one of his nation’s leading players overall, but could cement his place as its leading grass-courter by the end of the summer.

He is one of just four Spanish men to win multiple grass-court titles, and could hold Spain’s overall record should he win Wimbledon.

David Ferrer – 2

Only six Spanish men in the Open Era have won a grass-court singles title, with Andres Gimeno and Roberto Bautista Agut both winning one title each.

That makes former world No 3 Ferrer the fourth-most successful grass-court player in modern Spanish men’s tennis history, having picked up two titles on the surface.

Ferrer triumphed at the Rosmalen Championships in both 2008 and 2012, the only two grass-court finals he reached across his career.

He was also twice a quarter-finalist at Wimbledon, reaching the last eight in 2012 and 2013.

Feliciano Lopez – 4

Four of Lopez’s seven titles and six of his 18 tour finals came on grass, making him one of the few Spanish players to arguably be a specialist on grass rather than clay.

The Spaniard won his first two titles on grass at the Eastbourne International, claiming back-to-back triumphs in 2013 and 2014.

After failing to convert a championship point in the 2014 Queen’s Club final, Lopez would go on to ultimately win the prestigious event twice, in 2017 and 2019.

Lopez was also a runner-up at the 2017 Stuttgart Open, and three of his four Grand Slam quarter-finals came at Wimbledon.

Rafael Nadal – 4

Nadal is so often associated with being the ‘King of Clay’ that it is sometimes forgotten just how great he was on all three modern tennis surfaces, including grass.

On the surface, the former world No 1 is probably best remembered for lifting the Wimbledon title in 2008 and 2010, though he reached a further three finals at SW19.

Outside of the All England Club, Nadal reached two grass-court finals and won both of them, prevailing at the Queen’s Club in 2008 and the Stuttgart Open in 2015.

Nadal had an overall win percentage of 78.4% on grass, higher than his 77.2% win rate on hard courts.

Carlos Alcaraz – 4

Already level with both Lopez and Nadal, just how many more grass-court titles will 22-year-old Alcaraz win across his legendary career?

The Spaniard’s victory in Sunday’s Queen’s Club final sealed his second title at the tournament, having previously lifted the title at the tournament in 2023.

However, Alcaraz’s greatest grass-court triumphs have come at Wimbledon, with the Spaniard heading into this year’s tournament as the two-time defending champion.

He currently has a staggering 90.6% win rate on the surface, and arguably is the man to beat at the All England Club this summer.
