Iga Swiatek clinched a stellar Grand Slam milestone as she downed Liudmila Samsonova to progress to her maiden Wimbledon semi-final.

The five-time major champion earned a decisive 6-2, 7-5 victory over world No 19 Samsonova in the quarter-finals on No. 1 Court.

Swiatek saved a break point in the opening game of the match before breaking the 26-year-old Russian twice to take the first set convincingly.

The world No 4 was twice broken back after leading 3-0 and 4-2 in the second set, but she made the third and pivotal breakthrough when Samsonova served to stay in the match at 5-6.

With her career-best run at Wimbledon, Swiatek has now reached the semi-finals at all four Grand Slam tournaments.

The Polish star is the fourth active WTA player to make the last four at each of the majors, emulating Victoria Azarenka, Karolina Pliskova and Aryna Sabalenka.

Swiatek’s win improved her 2025 season record to 40-11 and it means she has now won at least 40 matches in each of the last four seasons. She is the first player to accomplish this since Pliskova, who won 40+ matches in six straight years from 2014 to 2019.

In her on-court interview, Swiatek — who is seeded eighth — gave her reaction to reaching her first semi-final a Wimbledon.

“Honestly, it feels great. Even though I’m in the middle of tournament, I already got goosebumps after this win,” she said.

“I’m super happy and super proud of myself. And yeah, I’ll keep going.

“I really enjoy playing [on grass] this year and hopefully it’s gonna last as long as possible. But yeah, I feel like I really worked hard to progress here on this surface.

“So this year, I feel like I can just work with it and work with myself, so I’ll just keep doing that. And it’s really a pleasure also to play in front of you guys, so thanks for the support.”

Swiatek, who will play her semi-final match tomorrow, also spoke about the schedule at the All England Club.

“It’s a different rhythm than usually what we have on Grand Slams. I think I only played twice like that,” added Swiatek.

“I’ll just recover today, try not to celebrate too much but already focus on the next one, prepare in the evening and I will be ready tomorrow.”

The 24-year-old will face world No 35 Belinda Bencic in the last four.
