Iga Swiatek has already established herself as one of the greatest clay-court players of all time, and her outstanding record at the Stuttgart Open reflects this.

The world No 2 is a two-time champion at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, an indoor clay WTA 500 event played in Stuttgart.

Swiatek lifted her maiden Stuttgart title on her debut at the tournament in 2022, when she crushed Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 6-2 in the final.

The Pole defended her crown in 2023 as she earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the same opponent in the championship match.

In 2024, Swiatek’s 10-match unbeaten run in Stuttgart came to an end when she fell 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 to eventual champion Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals.

The Stuttgart Open is the oldest professional women’s indoor tournament held in Europe, having been founded in 1978.

The event was staged in Filderstadt (a suburb of Stuttgart) between 1978 and 2005 before moving to Stuttgart in 2006, and it was played on hard courts until switching to clay in 2009. It is now a prominent fixture of the European clay season in the build-up to the French Open.

With her 6-2, 6-2 win against Jana Fett opening match at this year’s Stuttgart Open, Swiatek improved her record at the event to a stellar 11-1 (91.7%).

Among players who have made at least two appearances at the tournament, Swiatek is one of only three who holds a win percentage of 90% or higher.

The five-time Grand Slam champion ranks second for win rate behind Tracy Austin, who won four titles and accumulated a 96% record. Swiatek tops the list for the era in which the event has been played on clay.

Highest win rate at WTA Stuttgart Open

1. Tracy Austin – 96%

2. Iga Swiatek – 92%

3. Martina Navratilova – 90%

4. Maria Sharapova – 84%

5. Kim Clijsters – 82%

Swiatek is seeking her 11th clay title and 23rd tournament win in total at this year’s Stuttgart tournament.

The 23-year-old has not reached a final since collecting her fourth French Open crown and fifth major overall in June last year.

The former world No 1 will next take on either Emma Navarro or Jelena Ostapenko in the quarter-finals at the WTA 500 tournament. She holds a 2-0 record against Navarro and a 0-5 record against Ostapenko.

Swiatek is seeded second and could face world No 1 Sabalenka in the final.
