The 6 Italian men to reach top 10 in ATP Rankings as Musetti joins Sinner and Berrettini

Lorenzo Musetti has ensured he will become the fourth active Italian player to have been ranked in the top 10 of the ATP Rankings with his 2025 Madrid Open run.
The 23-year-old has made an outstanding start to the clay season, having followed up his Monte Carlo Masters runner-up result by reaching the quarter-finals in Madrid.
Musetti arrived in Madrid at a career-high ranking of world No 11, and his last 16 win against Alex de Minaur lifted him to ninth in the Live ATP Rankings.
The Italian, who turned pro in 2019, has won two ATP singles title to date, while he was a semi-finalist at Wimbledon last year.
Here, we look at the other five Italian men who have held a place among the top 10 players in the world.
Adriano Panatta
Adriano Panatta was the first Italian top 10 ATP player, having been ranked eighth when the first-ever edition of the ATP Rankings were published on 23 August 1973.
He peaked at world No 4 in August 1976, while his 27th and final week in the top 10 came in April 1977.
Panatta won 10 ATP singles titles, including the 1976 French Open, during a professional career spanning from 1969 to 1983.
Corrado Barazzutti
Corrado Barazzutti first broke into the top 10 of the world rankings in February 1978 and spent 33 weeks in the top 10.
He reached a career-high ATP ranking of world No 7 in August 1977, while his last week as a top 10 player was in January 1979.
Barazzutti secured five singles titles and was a semi-finalist at the French Open and the US Open during a career spanning from 1971 to 1984.

Fabio Fognini
Fabio Fognini became a top 10 player for the first time in June 2019 and he remained there for a total of eight weeks.
He peaked at ninth in the rankings in July 2019, while he spent his last week in the top 10 in August 2019.
Fognini, who turned pro in 2004, has collected nine ATP singles titles, with his biggest triumph coming at the 2019 Monte Carlo Masters. The 37-year-old currently sits 112th in the rankings.
Matteo Berrettini
Matteo Berrettini made his top 10 debut in the same year as Fognini, with his breakthrough coming in October 2019.
His 103rd and most recent week as a top 10 player was in June 2022, while he reached his career-high position of sixth in January 2022.
Berrettini, who turned pro in 2015, has won 10 ATP titles and was a runner-up at Wimbledon in 2021. The 29-year-old is currently ranked 31st.
Jannik Sinner
Jannik Sinner cracked the top 10 for the first time in November 2021, and he has spent 117 weeks inside the top 10.
He has been the world No 1 for 47 consecutive weeks since reaching top spot for the first time in June 2024.
The 23-year-old, who turned pro in 2018, has claimed 19 titles, including three Grand Slams.
