Carlos Alcaraz may not be in Madrid Open action – though he holds a tournament record that is unlikely to be broken in 2025.

The Spaniard’s win percentage at the tournament is the highest since the event moved to clay, with 2025 top seed and world No 2 Alexander Zverev also towards the top of the standings.

Looking only at results since the event switched to clay in 2009, and only including players with at least 10 matches at the tournament, here are the five men with the highest Madrid Open percentage.

=4) Roger Federer – 80%

The Madrid Open was one of the most successful clay events of Federer’s career, with the Swiss lifting the title twice after the move to the dirt in 2009.

Federer picked up a rare clay-court win over Nadal to lift the title in 2009 and, after losing to the Spaniard in the 2010 final, regained the title with a triumph over Tomas Berdych in 2012.

Following his final appearance at the event in 2019, the Swiss had won 20 of 25 matches at the tournament since the move to clay – a win rate of 80%.

=4) Novak Djokovic – 80%

Djokovic will look to improve his already impressive win record at the Madrid Open in 2025, with the Serbian back at the tournament for the first time since a run to the last four in 2022.

The Serbian beat Nadal in 2011 to win the title and then claimed further triumphs in 2016 and 2019, beating Andy Murray and Stefanos Tsitsipas, respectively.

Heading into 2025, Djokovic is level with Federer with a win percentage of 80% – with a 24-6 record on the clay courts inside the Caja Magica.

3) Rafael Nadal – 82.14%

The Madrid Open was one of Nadal’s weaker clay-court events, though his four titles remain a record since the tournament changed surface in 2009.

Nadal won the title in 2010 and then claimed back-to-back successes in 2013 and 2014, before his final triumph in 2017.

Following his final appearance at the tournament in 2024, the home favourite had won 46 of 56 matches in the Spanish capital since 2009, a win percentage of 82.14%.

2) Alexander Zverev – 82.14%

Heading into this year’s event, Zverev held an 82.14% win rate in Madrid, placing him level with tennis icon Nadal.

However, having beaten Roberto Baustita Agut in his opening match in 2024, the German is currently ahead of the Spaniard in the live standings, with an active win percentage of 82.75%.

Zverev has an impressive history at the tournament, beating Dominic Thiem in 2018 and Matteo Berrettini in 2021 to claim the title and also reaching the 2022 final, with a 24-5 record ahead of round three in 2025.

1) Carlos Alcaraz – 88.24%

Unfortunately for Alcaraz, he will not be in action in 2025 – forced to withdraw from the biggest event in his home nation due to injury.

However, he has already forged an impressive legacy at the tournament, with his current win rate of 88.24% in Madrid the highest since the event reverted to clay 16 years ago.

Alcaraz’s career in Madrid is highlighted by his back-to-back triumphs in 2022 and 2023, defeating Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff in the finals.

His only defeats at the event were to Nadal in the second round in 2021 and to Andrey Rublev in the last eight in 2024, holding a 15-2 record overall.
