There are 14 men who hold a 100% win rate in Grand Slam finals, with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner the two active ATP players on the list.

Ten players have prevailed in their only appearance in a major men’s singles final, while just two are unbeaten having competed in three or more championship matches.

Here, we look at the 14 men with a 100% record in Grand Slam singles finals in the Open Era.

1-0 record

Mark Edmondson

At the 1976 Australian Open, unseeded Australian Mark Edmondson upset compatriot and second seed John Newcombe 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, 6-1 in the championship match.

Adriano Panatta

Adriano Panatta was the No 8 seed at the 1976 French Open when he beat seventh seed Harold Solomon 6-1, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(3) in the only Grand Slam final he reached in his career.

Brian Teacher

Brian Teacher defeated 14th seed Kim Warwick 7-5, 7-6(4), 6-3 in the final of the 1980 Australian Open to win his only Grand Slam title. The American was the eighth seed in Melbourne.

Yannick Noah

In his only major final, Yannick Noah downed fifth seed Mats Wilander 6-2, 7-5, 7-6(3) at the 1983 French Open. Noah, who was seeded sixth, was the last French player to win the men’s singles title at Roland Garros.

Andres Gomez

At the 1990 French Open, No 4 seed Andres Gomez overcame third seed Andre Agassi 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the only Grand Slam championship match of his career. Gomez remains the only Ecuadorian player to win a Grand Slam singles title.

Thomas Muster

Thomas Muster saw off No 6 seed Michael Chang 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 in the title match at the 1995 edition of Roland Garros to secure his only major crown. The Austrian was seeded fifth in Paris.

Richard Krajicek

In what was the only major final of his career, Richard Krajicek beat unseeded American MaliVai Washington 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 at the 1996 Wimbledon Championships. The Dutchman was the 17th seed at the All England Club.

Thomas Johansson

At the 2002 Australian Open, 16th seed Thomas Johansson upset No 9 seed Marat Safin 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6(2) in the championship match to complete a surprise run to his only major title.

Albert Costa

Albert Costa earned a convincing 6-1, 6-0 4-6, 6-3 victory over Spanish compatriot and 11th seed Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final of the 2002 French Open. Costa was seeded 20th in his only Grand Slam title run.

Gaston Gaudio

In the 2004 French Open final, unseeded Argentine Gaston Gaudio stunned No 3 seed and compatriot Guillermo Coria 0-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 8-6 after saving two championship points.

2-0 record

Johan Kriek

Johan Kriek prevailed in the two major finals he contested, which came in back-to-back years at the Australian Open against the same opponent: Steve Denton.

The South African-American triumphed 6-2, 7-6(1), 6-7(1), 6-4 in the 1981 final against Denton before defending his title with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 victory over the American in 1982.

Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner won both of the Grand Slam championship matches he has played in his career so far.

The Italian fought back to beat Daniil Medvedev 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the 2024 Australian Open final, while he downed Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in the 2024 US Open title match.

3-0 record

Gustavo Kuerten

Gustavo Kuerten holds a perfect record from his three major finals, which were all at the French Open.

The Brazilian cruised to a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 win against Sergi Bruguera in the 1997 Roland Garros title match to win his maiden Grand Slam.

Kuerten then secured consecutive French Open crowns in 2000 and 2001, beating Magnus Norman 6-2, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(6) in the first final and Alex Corretja 6-7(3), 7-5, 6-2, 6-0 in the second.

4-0 record

Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz is currently the only male player with a 4-0 record in Grand Slam singles finals in the Open Era.

To win his maiden major, Alcaraz defeated Casper Ruud 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-3 in the 2022 US Open final.

The Spaniard overcame Novak Djokovic in successive Wimbledon championship matches in 2023 and 2024, prevailing 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in the former and 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) in the latter.

Alcaraz’s other major triumph came at the 2024 edition of Roland Garros, where he battled to a 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 final win over Alexander Zverev.
