The 8 men with the most Canadian Open titles: Rafael Nadal 2nd, Novak Djokovic 3rd
Eight male players have won the Canadian Open title two or more times, with tennis legend Ivan Lendl holding the record for the most titles.
Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray have all claimed multiple trophies at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
There are four players competing at the 2024 Canadian Open in Montreal who have won the event once: Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev and Pablo Carreno Busta.
Sinner is the defending champion, having secured his maiden Masters 1000 crown in Toronto last year.
Here, we look at the eight players who have won the men’s singles tournament at the Canadian Open on multiple occasions in the Open Era.
=6. Roger Federer – 2 (2004, 2006)
Federer won both of his titles at the Canadian Open in Toronto (2004, 2006) and he also lost four finals at the event (2007, 2010, 2014, 2017).
In the championship matches he won at the Masters 1000 tournament, the Swiss earned victories against Andy Roddick (2004) and Richard Gasquet (2006).

=6. John McEnroe – 2 (1984, 1985)
John McEnroe claimed two titles at the hard-court tournament in back-to-back years in Toronto (1984) and Montreal (1985), while he was also a runner-up in 1989.
The American overcame Vitas Gerulaitis (1984) and Ivan Lendl (1985) in his successful title matches in Canada.

Guillermo Vilas was a two-time winner at the Canadian Open at a time when the tournament was only held in Toronto and played on clay courts.
In the two title matches he contested, the Argentine saw off Manuel Orantes (1974) and Wojtek Fibak (1976).

Murray won three Canadian Masters crowns, having prevailed in Montreal twice (2009, 2015) and Toronto once (2010).
The Brit triumphed in all three of his finals, defeating Juan Martin del Potro (2009), Roger Federer (2010) and Novak Djokovic (2015).

Andre Agassi secured three titles at the Canadian Open, with his first two victories coming in Toronto (1992, 1994) and his last one coming in Montreal (1995).
The American downed Ivan Lendl (1992), Jason Stoltenberg (1994) and Pete Sampras (1995) in his championship match wins and was also a beaten finalist in 2005.
3. Novak Djokovic – 4 (2007, 2011, 2012, 2016)
Djokovic is a four-time champion at the Masters 1000 event, having triumphed twice in both Montreal (2007, 2011) and Toronto (2012, 2016), while he was also a runner-up in 2015.
In his title match victories, the Serbian defeated Roger Federer (2007), Mardy Fish (2011), Richard Gasquet (2012) and Kei Nishikori (2016).
2. Rafael Nadal – 5 (2005, 2008, 2013, 2018, 2019)
Nadal has claimed five titles at the Canada Masters, making it his most successful hard-court tournament. The Spaniard is a three-time champion in Montreal (2005, 2013, 2019) and a two-time winner in Toronto (2008, 2018).
Nadal holds an unbeaten record in finals at the Canada Masters, having beaten Andre Agassi (2005), Nicolas Kiefer (2008), Milos Raonic (2013), Stefanos Tsitsipas (2018) and Daniil Medvedev (2019).
1. Ivan Lendl – 6 (1980, 1981, 1983, 1987, 1988, 1989)
Ivan Lendl holds the record for the most titles at the Canadian Open with six, while he was also a runner-up in 1982 and 1985. The Czech-American secured four of his titles in Montreal (1981, 1983, 1987, 1989) and two in Toronto (1980, 1988).
In his successful championship matches, Lendl overcame six different opponents: Bjorn Borg (1980), Eliot Teltscher (1981), Anders Jarryd (1983), Stefan Edberg (1987), Kevin Curren (1988) and John McEnroe (1989).
